Mangaluru, March 23: Over thousand citizens on the evening of Saturday March 21st joined together to demand justice for three-and-a-half-year-old LKG child whom they called ‘Baby Nirbhaya’, who was sexually assaulted allegedly by her school van driver.
Prior to the protest meet, the people led a candlelight march from Nehru Maidan to DC’s office, where a protest meet was held.
Nandagopal of Centre for Integrated Learning, flagged off the march at Nehru Maidan.
Speaking addressing the protestors he said, so far we have heard about rape cases in Delhi and later in Bengaluru, but now we happen to hear such news which has taken place in our own neighbourhood. We have to build an educated society. This candlelight march is to create awareness among citizens against such atrocities and urge for justice to the child.\
Renny D’Souza, state convener of CLC Karnataka addressing the gathered near DC’s office, said, so far no action has been initiated against the school and hence we are holding this march. POCSO Act has to be implemented in the right manner, and the culprit should be brought under the law. We should educate children about their safety.
Activist Manjula said that the cops have failed to take appropriate action on the matter. She urged for action against the school and speedy investigation in the case in order to grant justice to the victim and her family at the sooner.
People belonging to all religions, irrespective of their age participated in the protest.
