Bangalore/Mangalore, June 11: Torrential rains in coastal region even continued on Tuesday. In mountain/hilly area reported moderate rains. Throughout Dakshina Kannada district heavy rains have been reported at regular intervals
In some parts of the district heavy damages like cases of house collapse, uprooting of trees etc have been reported. In was also reported that due to heavy rains, a lady has been washed away in rain water in city’s Attavar.
It was reported that when lady was trying to cross the channel (Thodu) near her house at the time of intense rain, she lost her balance resulting her wash away in flowing rainy water. Nearby people have tried their best to save her but all their efforts went in vain. Her dead body was later discovered at Bunder.
In places like Bajal, someshwara, and Mulky of Mangalore taluk due to partial wall collapse of four houses, reportedly around Rs one lakh damges have been occurred.
At Maani of Bantwal taluk a gigantic mango tree has uprooted and fell on market building and four other shops nearby resulting heavy damages.
It has been recorded in the district an average of 444.9 mm since January 2013 as compared to the corresponding period in the year 2012.Normally 3912.2 mm of rains were being recorded annually.
In Udipi taluk moderate rains have been reported and so far average of 45.3 mm rains has been recorded. As a result of tree fell on the house, around Rs 50 thousand damage has been reported in places like Madanidambur and Ambalpady.In in another place at Kodavoor as result of electric pole fell, damages of Rs 20 thousand has been reported.
Although heavy rains have been reported in Chikmaglur district, casualties have not been reported.
In Uttarakannada coastal region good rains have been reported and in taluks of mountain/hilly area moderate rains reported. In Darwad district places like Hubli, Darwad and surrounding places and in Haveri district and Belgaum district places like Belgaum, Chikkodi, and Khanapura and in Rayabagh district reported good rains.
It was recorded 11.56 mm rains within 24 hours of time on June 10 Monday morning at 8.30 am as compared to 4.21 mm in 2012 during corresponding period. 278.32 mm rains have been recorded from January, 2013 till to-date as compared to 233.22 mm in last year for the same corresponding period.
In K S Road area because of rain water on the road, all the areas were looking like river. Traffic was hit by rain water on the road in M G Road resulting flinging of water on the passing pedestrians thus pedestrians were facing problems.
As a result of stagnant rain water on road in places like Mallikatte, Kankanady, heavy traffic jam has been reported.
In different taluks and cities heavy rain was reported on Monday. Throughout the Puttur taluk heavy rains have been reported and places like Sullia,Subramanya heavy rains have been reported resulting disruption in electricity supply in some areas.Besdies heavy traffic jam was reported.
In Moodbidri good raining has been reported at regular intervals including on Sunday.Suratkal, Kinnigoli, Bantwala witnessed good rain.In Mulky it was raining heavily on Sunday night and on Monday afternoon, it intensified again.
In Ullal it was reported good rain in the morning and in Belthangady moderate rain reported. In Bajpe there was a rain in the afternoon.
In udipi and Karkala Taluk Sunday night and Monday morning heavy rains reported and in Kundapur taluk moderate rains recorded.
Damages to the houses:
In places like Bajal, Someshwara, Mulky and Katipalla of Mangalore taluk, portions of four houses have been damaged and incurred a loss of Rs one lakh and in Jalligudde Jayanagara reported damage to the houses of Dhanavanthi and Dhamodhar Nayak.
In Karkala Kaabettu Cholpadi cracks have been observed in the house of Bifathima due to tree fall, resulting Rs.30, 000/ damages. In the same area six electric poles have been reportedly fallen resulting Rs 60,000/loss to MESCOM.
In Hebri Kaleelu Gokuldas has incurred a loss of Rs10,000/as result of sheets of the shed have been fling in the air.In Udipi taluk Nanjaru Ambaramakki Radha Belchadthi’s house and in Shirva Ratna Korapala
Have been partially damaged,resulting a los of Rs 10,000/- each.Ambalpady Ibrahim sahib has suffred a loss of Rs 40,000/as a result of house damage due to rain ad in Kodavur Moodabettu Issac’s house has been damaged,Rs 20,000/ due to electricity pole fall and also in Kaalavara in Kundapur taluk savithri Mogerthi ‘s metal sheets of her house fling in the air,resulting Rs 25,000/loss.
Water level in Harangi water resources was 2859 ft and on Monday it was 2802.41 ft as compared to 2803.93 ft for the corresponding period in last year.
