Mangaluru, May 6: The commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has been given a gunman for her security by the Police Department.
Due to her sincere work methodology, Hephsiba Rani has been facing the ire of many corporators, who have been demanding her transfer. They have time and again alleged that she is not responding to the needs of the people and showing highhandedness in interacting with MCC members.
Some had even met chief minister Siddaramaiah during his recent visit to the city and urged him to transfer Hephsiba Rani. Viewing all these developments, Hephsiba Rani had officially written to the City police commissioner demanding gunman security. In view of the security to Hephsiba Rani, the police department has provided gunman to MCC commissioner.
After assuming the charge as the commissioner of MCC, Hephsiba Rani is striving to bring about enough changes in the administrative department of MCC. In order to curb corruption, she is inspecting all the aspects all by herself. Tenders related to the works in the areas falling under the MCC, bill sanctioned to the works, inspection of the works; in all these matters she is functioning in such a way that there is no chance for misappropriation.
The corporators had also alleged that the commissioner does not allow them to meet her without prior appointment, and she had issued notice to an attender for allowing people inside when meetings were going on. Hephsiba Rani in her defence had said that she was unhappy with the working of the corporators and was not getting their cooperation in carrying out development works.
Hephsiba Rani’s genuine way of administration has created dissatisfaction to some people. This is the first time in history that an MCC commissioner has been given gunman for security.
If such situations are to be faced by the young officers who are striving to discharge their sincere duties by running corruption free administration; a question also arises that in future, how will the officers be able to discharge their duties sincerely? It is really sad that a situation has aroused where in a IAS officer has to discharge the duties taking gunman security.
