Mangaluru, June 5: Brisk counting process of the two-phase Gram Panchayat polls held on May 29th and June 2nd in the state are going on of which the first phase counting process are over.
The winners of 181 wards rejoiced their success in front of the counting centre, after the counting results were announced.
Eight BJP backed candidates won in Panjikal of Bantwal while in Kilappady of Mulki, BJP candidate Shantha won by a difference of 9 votes against her daughter-in-law Mallika who was backed by Congress. Shantha won-266 votes while Mallika got 257 votes.
Meenakshi from Munnabettu ward-1, Devi Prasad Shetty of congress from Belapu ward, Surendra from Jokatte Panchayat, BJP candidate Vidya Shetty from Boliyar ward-1, independent candidate Iqubal from Konaje, Jerry D’souza from Belman Panchayt have won in the elections.
The BJP candidates have won at Shibaje and Kalamanja of Belthangady taluk, while at Hosangady, all the congress candidates have won. At Padavettu, five congress candidates and four candidates of BJP has won.
In Udupi district, Congress won 16 seats in Udyavar gp and BJP 14. In Kadekar, BJP-backed candidates won 8 while Congress-backed candidates won 3 seats. In Alevoor Congress bagged 13 seats while 16 went to BJP. In Palimar, out of 16 seats, Congress bagged 7 and BJP 9. In Thenkanidiyur, BJP won 21 seats and Congress 6, Chantar saw BJP winning 15 seats and Congress 11, and in Perdur, it was 9 seats for BJP as against 8 for Congress.
