Puttur, August 11: Two persons expired and others suffered injuries in a collision between a Jeep and a tanker which occurred near Addahole of Shiradi village on the National Highway-75 Monday August 10th.
The deceased women have been identified as Bhavani (35), wife of Perje resident Vishwanath, and Rukmini (45) wife of the late Guddappa Gowda.
The accident took place when a diesel tanker moving from Bengaluru to Mangaluru dashed to the jeep. The occupants of the jeep were travelling towards Sakleshpur. Six members were travelling in the jeep including the jeep driver.
The speeding tanker was approaching from the opposite direction in a wrong side. On noticing this, the jeep driver had moved the jeep to the extreme side. Even then the tanker had collided to the jeep.
The jeep is completely mangled after this incident.
The two women who were seriously injured expired on the way while being shifted to the hospital.
Chandrashekar- Kokkrady resident was driving the service jeep, a nun identified as Sr Nisha and another woman named Lilly who were injured were shifted to A.J. Hospital in Mangaluru. Another injured, Vishwanath, was taken to general hospital in Uppinangady.
The diesel tanker driver had fled the spot soon after the incident.
The youths from Gundia and Kokkarady taluk panchayat member Bhaskar S Gowda helped to shift the injured to the hospital.
A case has been registered by Puttur traffic police.
Guddappa Gowda from Perje had expired due to illness, four months ago. His wife Rukmini (45) has expired in this accident. The family was in poverty. Their ten year old son has lost both of his parents now. Also, sadly both the expired woman belongs to the same family.
After a long time, the Shiradi ghat stretch was opened for all traffic on Monday.
