Jakarta: Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal became first Indian shuttler to reach the finals of the World Badminton Championship after she beat Lindaweni Fanetri in the semifinals on Saturday in Jakarta.

The win helped Saina to better her record against the Indonesian 3-1 and also assured of a silver medal.

Saina will face Spain’s Carolina Marin in the final which will be played on Sunday.

In first game of the semfinals, Saina and Fanetri did not give eachother an inch and were tied at 17-17. But in the crunch moments, the Indian upped the ante to win the game 21-17.

In the second game, the Indonesian displayed her skills and ability to dig deep.

But the Olympic Bronze medallist, who looked in a fine touch, was too good for Fanetri’s liking and won the second game 21-17 to set up the final clash against World No.1 Carolina Marin.
