Mangalore, June 28: In connection with national highways and roads in Karnataka coastal region, Nalin Kumar Kateel MP had submitted a memorandum to Oscar Fernandez, union minister for transport and roads .
With regard to Karavali Karnataka, National Authorities of India must implement the followings on priority basis:
1. Though seven years have been rolled out after starting the work of four lanes widening of BC Road-Suratkal on NH 75 (48), still the work on this route has not completed. In spite of requesting national highway authorities several times about the problems faced by the public, request of the public has not been addressed adequately.
2. As a part of NH 66 (17) four lane expansion works of roads, in Bikarnekatte, a part of Mangalore, work of flyover construction is moving in very slow pace and thereby public are facing difficulties besides being a heavy traffic on this busy road.
3. At Nanthoor junction where NH 66(17) and NH 169 (13) join, a construction of flyover is inevitable because this is one of the busiest roads, wherein traffic is dense. By constructing a flyover not only traffic can be eased and public can also move freely
4. On the border of Dakshina Kannada and Hasan district at Shiradi Ghat during monsoon, traffic will get disorganized due to heavy rain. Since plying of heavy vehicles are more in numbers, accidents are occurring very frequently as a result of which movement of other vehicles will be hindered on this road.
In view of solving all these problems, it was decided by the previous government to construct one tunnel between Mangalore-Bangalore routes. With the construction of tunnel between Mangalore-Bangalore routes, around 100 km distance can be reduced and thus helping the passengers between Mangalore-Bangalore to save their travelling time besides being saving fuel cost.
Therefor central government authorities must think about the construction of this tunnel, which has mentioned in the memorandum, he said
