Mangaluru, September 21: Mangalore Institute of Oncology launched a public awareness campaign – ‘Cancer Awareness program on wheels’, on Monday September 21st.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim flagged off the vehicle at the premises of DC’s office here.
Speaking after the inauguration, DC Ibrahim said, by creating public awareness on deadly disease such as Cancer can help in saving one’s life.
Dr Jalaluddin Akbar, Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology said, in this mobile vehicle, a video system is housed educating on cancer for ten minutes. This video will be displayed in places where crowds are seen. Those interested will watch it. Three paramedical staffs will be there in the vehicle that will provide free information on all types of cancer. The cancer cases in India is more compared with other nations. The number of cancer patients in Mangaluru is also rising. Tobacco consumption, unhealthy life style and false thoughts on cancer is the reason for the rise in the disease. Hence information and awareness on it is the method of preventing cancer. On this account, this awareness program is employed, he said.
Dr Suresh Rao- HOD, Department of Radiation Oncology, Dr Sanath Hegde, of Radiation Oncology and staffs of the institution were also present.
