Bengaluru, October 27: The Bengaluru police have arrested Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra and was immediately released on bail.

He was questioned for 3 hours from 10.45 AM on October 27 and later arrested. However the police released him after he obtained bail in the police station.

The police had said that he will be released on bail since it is a bailable offence. The police say that Mishra who was questioned today had recorded his statement in connection with the assault case lodged by a lady.

The lady had earlier said that she would withdraw the case, but later on issued a contradictory statement.

The police say that the power of withdrawal of a case lies with the complainant in such cases, but she would need to inform the court about the same.

The 32-year-old Mishra was part of the Indian ODI team that lost the 5-match series 2-3 to South Africa on Sunday (October 25) in Mumbai. In the 5th ODI at Wankhede Stadium, he had a forgettable outing, like other Indian bowlers, with figures of 0/78 in 10 overs. India were handed a humiliating 214-run loss.

Mishra is also in the Test squad which will face the visitors from November 5. The first of the 4 Tests is in Mohali. He has so far played 16 Tests, 31 ODIs and 7 T20Is for India.

The case against him was filed on September 27 when he was in Bengaluru for Team India’s preparatory camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
