Beltangady, December 10: The 83rd conference of religions organized as part of the Lakshadeepotsava held in Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala was inaugurated by Minister for Co-operation &Sugar, HS Mahadeva Prasad.

Addressing the gathering later he said, India is a country of religious tolerance. Now intolerance is rising here and there, we should not give any chance for it. We should think of development and not of hating others, he said.

All the religions over the globe preach non-violence and brotherhood. But some are misusing the Dharma for their own benefits. The work of controlling such people has to be done, he said.

Chief of Vishwa Gayatri Pariwar in Haridwar, Dr Pranav Pandya presided over the program and said, if we properly understand the messages and values preached by religions and inculcate them in our lives, peace resides by itself in the world. Along with earning for us, we also have to do social service, he said.

The world is heading towards development and changes daily. But along with this, poverty, malnutrition and child abuse is increasing. The small wars taking place daily is responsible for the intolerance in the world. In these days, the Indian thought of world family gains more importance. All should employ this in their lives. If good values are inculcated in life, the world can live peacefully, he said.

Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade said, live and let live should be out thought. Along with gaining knowledge of our religion, we have to learn about other religions then our thoughts will be broadened. Hence, from eight decades, conference of religions is being organized in Dharmasthala, he said.

Prof S Prabhakar, D Surendra Kumar, SDM Educational Institutions Secretary Dr B Yashovarma and others were present. Dr L H Manjunath proposed the vote of thanks. Dr B P Sampathkumar compeered the program.
