Both suspects confess to taking passports

Two men impersonated as CID and allegedly attacked six people, confined them in a room and fled with their passports before they were arrested, Dubai Court heard on Monday.

MR, 27, a visitor testified in court that on February 25th, he accompanied two of his lady friends to look out for accommodation for the duo in Bur Dubai area.

The watchman of one of the buildings guided them to an apartment, which had three women tenants.

“While we were inside the flat, two men in kandura walked in and showed their ID cards and claimed they were CIDs,” MR told the court.

“I presented my passport. While one of them was checking it the other person punched me in the face and asked me to give them Dh15,000. I told them that I do not have money,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, NM, 30, one of the women visitors, told police that the suspects locked the flat’s door, confining all six Pakistani victims inside, and ordered MR to arrange cash from his home country while they were beating him up.

SK, 23, the other woman visitor, also testified in court, giving the same details.

MR added: “I kept on telling them that I am a visitor and I do not have money. They stole my mobile phone and the passports of the five women in the flat before leaving at around 12 midnight.”

MR immediately informed police and the two Comoros suspects were arrested. They were held up by some men in the building.

KG, 37, and KA, 31, confessed to taking passports of the victims but added that they were forcing MR to return the money they had lent him.

The court is adjourned to December 20.
