Mangaluru, December 15: In Shree Kukke Subramanya Shrine in Dakshina Kannada district, instead of performing the controversial practice of Madesnana, this year Yedesnana is being performed for three days from today – the day of Chauthi.

What is the faith behind this practice?

To find a cure for various kinds of diseases, to get kids, to get rid of Sarpadoshas and to attain peace and prosperity; many devotees believe that Madesnana is also has the same positive benefits as that of the soil of termitarium, Annaprasadam ad the holy water of river Kumardhara. But people have staged protest demanding to impose ban on the Madesnana. Hence provision has been given this year for the observation of Yedesnana in the sanctum. This is for the first time, that Yedesnana is being observed in the temple.

Every year on the auspicious day of Kartika Bahula Yekadashi, the temple priest enters the Garbha Gudi, offers prayers to the lord and then collects the Moola Prasada (soil from the termitarium). This will be distributed a yearlong for the devotees. In teh Sanctum, various sevas such as Sarpasamskara, Ashlesha Bali, Nagaprathiste, and other kinds of sevas are performed here without any sort of communal differences.

Urulu Seve:

On this occasion, another special seva that is performed in the sanctum is the Urulu seve by the devotees (including elders, woman and children) from the banks of River Kumardhara to the temple which is two kilometres far. Although the vehicles will be moving on the streets, the devotees fulfil such vows by not caring for the dangers.
