Mangaluru, December 26: In relation to the Prashant Poojary murder case, the police have arrested the innocents and also fixed them in false cases. In addition, they have committed atrocities to them, alleged Ashraf, president of DK district United Muslim Organization.
Prashant Poojary, a flower vendor and right-wing activist, was murdered in Moodbidri town on the morning of October 9th.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday December 26th, Former Mayor Ashraf said, in connection to the Prashant Poojary murder case, the police have filed a case against 17persons, among whom ten accused have been arrested. They are facing atrocities. They have also been fixed in other cases related to murder and stabbing also in Bajpe, Kavoor and Moodbidri police limits.
The arrested are being given third degree treatment. They are produced in court and sent to judicial custody. They are being fixed in other cases which the police have been unable to solve, he alleged.
The culprits should be punished, but fixing innocents in other cases is condemnable, he said.
Suitable action should be taken against officers who have meted out third degree treatment to the accused. Those who are not involved in the Prashant murder case have to be released. Police should stop taking innocents into custody without any reason. Before making the arrests, they should do proper investigation, he said.
He warned of a massive people’s movement and taking it up legally, if their demands are not met.
Tahul- brother of accused Mustafa Kavoor said, post the arrest of Mustafa police had asked to bring his t-shirt, shoes and jackets in an attempt to plant evidence against him and fix him in false cases. He is being given third degree treatment, said Tahul.
