Udupi; ‘Aatidonji Dina – Mahileyara Koota’ (A day in the month of Ashada — women’s meet) was organized by Udupi Taluk Mahila Mandaligala Okkoota, women multipurpose co-operative society and Tulu Siri Chavadi on Saturday July 20.
The celebrations began with a game of ‘Chennamane’. 13 mouth watering dishes of Tulunadu, including “ Halesina Kai Gadde”, “Menthe Ganji” “Pundi”, “Arasina Yele Gatti”, “Chilimbi adde”, “Kadubu”, “Thimare Chatni”, “Huruli Chatni”, Happala Chatni” Uddina Chatni”, “Halasina Beejada Vade”, “Patrode”, Huruli Ogarne” and Nuge Vade” were displayed.
Women participants said that these dishes specially prepared during the month of Aati or Ashada.
Dr. Nikethana (Govt PU College, thenkanadiyoor), inaugurated the function and she said Man claims be advanced in technology and science but he cannot change the nature and the time. The importance of the traditional medicine is vanishing year by year. Women hood is suffering from various threats now a days, we get physical health from food but for mental health, we are depend on our culture and background which we get only from our ancestors. So whatever tradition rituals we have from our ancestors, it got a meaning and it is our responsibility to keep it high.
