Mangalore, August 12: Agriculture is prime source of our nation and as agriculture grows automatically it leads to development of the farmers and country. In the present situation there was enough rain, which will help the cultivators, said forest minister and Dakshina Kannada in charge minister B. Ramanatha Rai.
He was speaking after inauguration of honey cultivation training and cashew cultivation re empowerment programme organised by D.K Zilla Panchayat, D.K Gardening department on the occasion of birth day anniversary programme of father of gardening Dr. M .H Marigowda, he said that growing of paddy is prime crop of coastal Karnataka, but as commercial crops are gained the value, the farmers stopped to grow the paddy and gave the preference to areca nut, cashew, coconut, rubber, cho- cho and vanilla and all and this was indispensable to them, he said.
Today, growers are suffering from areca nut rot problem and regarding this government ready to help them, he assured. Areca nut has good value, but rot problem became a headache to the farmers, but farmers are should develop themselves to find the solution to the problems. He said.
Along with agriculture, it should be our duty to save the forest and environment, hence we need live like environment friendly, he suggested.
Zilla Panchayat CEo Thulasi Maddineni was chief guest of the programme and he said that under the Mahatma Gandhi employment scheme, 15 to 20 ‘ kayaka Sangha’ associations are prepared to give the importance agriculture, she said. Moreover, in the school and aganavadi centre samplings planting programme will be organised, she said.
In the presidential address Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo said that from 20years there are encouragements to cashew cultivation and there is requirement proper information to encourage the people, he said.
On the occasion Zilla Panchayat vice president Rithesh Kumar released the agriculture related book ‘hearty clinic- thotada sogadu’.
