BANGALORE: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, who doesn’t know his birth date, celebrates his birthday on August 12 every year.
Early on Monday, Siddaramaiah got a surprise call from none other than Prime minister Manmohan Singh wishing the chief minister on his 66 birthday. According to Siddaramaiah’s submission, his parents were uneducated and poor that they didn’t even remember his birth date. “My father told that I was born three days before Independence Day. So my date has been registered as August 12 in school and colleges and has been celebrating on this day,” he said.
The celebration on Monday was low key affair with Siddaramaiah preferring to leave to Ramanagara and Channapatana to canvass for the Lok Sabha bypoll in Bangalore Rural segment by 10.30 am. Ministers and legislators stationed in Bangalore wished the CM. Siddaramaiah supporters made him to cut huge cake at his official residence situated at Kumarakrupa road.
“I don’t celebrate birthdays at all, so I am not used to cut cake. My supporters wish me and exchange pleasantries, I have accept them,” he said after cutting the cake.
As officials including IAS and IPS knew CM’s tour programme, they came early in the day with bouquets and wished him.
Former MLA and senior BJP leader M Srinivas made most of Siddaramaiah’s birthday by officially joining to Congress. As he represented Rajarajeshwarinagar as MLA and Kanakapura as MP, Srinivas has considerable influence in Bangalore Rural segment. Congress leader D K Shiva Kumar mediated Srinivas joining Congress.
