Mangalore, Sep 19: The Mangalore City Corporation in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board have taken up initiation for waste segregation campaign by distributing the dustbins to the public.
The dustbins were distributed by the Mangalore South MLA, J R lobo, in the formal inaugural ceremony held at Orchid Apartments, Arya Samaj Road, Balmatta on Thursday, September 19.
The pamphlet spreading the awareness on waste segregation was also released on this occasion.
Speaking after the distribution, Lobo said that by taking the initiation of this, MCC has given way to the better developmental projects in the city. Waste Management is primarily needed for all those do produce waste
We all dumb waste in the bins, which will then be dumped at Pacchanady, but at least once we must think about the people of Pacchanady. Bio degradable wastes needs to be degraded in our surrounding, which can also be used as fertilizers, instead of simply dumping them on the bins, he added.
At the first stage, dustbins have been purchased for 2 wards, court wards and Mannagudda ward; later this scheme will be introduced to other areas as well. The total cost of these dustbins is Rs 31 Lakhs.
MCC Commissioner, Ajith Hegde ,Corporator for Court Ward, Vinayaraj A C, Laxman, Environmental officer of Pollution Control Board, Pramila, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Vinod Devasya, president of Orchid Apartment welfare association and others were present. Inspector of MCC Madhu Manohar compeered the event.
