Udupi: District session Court awards lifetime sentence to accused in murder case

Udupi; Sept 19: A man who was accused in murder case, related to money matter has been awarded lifetime sentence by Udupi session court on Sept 18, Wednesday in its verdict.

It was said that accused Veerendra Poojary, resident of Attur north in Nitte village of Karkala taluk has borrowed a loan of Rs 90,000 from the chit fund company owned by Santhosh, a resident of the same village. Since the accused Veerendra Poojary did not repay the loan money, there exists an animosity between them.

In this connection, there occurred a argument, dispute between the accused and Sandeep, brother of Santhosh Poojary on 23.04.2012 in one of the ‘Mehndi programmes’ in one of the houses in the village. Enraged Veerendra Poojary,an accused with this incident ,went to his house, brought sword(Talwar) from his house and was waiting in the bus stand for Sandeep to come in the intention of murdering him. Meantime when Sandeep arrived there, Veerendra murdered him with his sword (Talwar).

In this connection, the case was registered in the Karkala rural police station. Since the case was proved in the hearing conducted by district session court judge B M Angadi, delivered his verdict on September 18, Wednesday awarding accused a lifetime sentence and a fine of Rs 5000.

Court in its conclusive statement said that accused has been awarded the punishment only after taking into consideration and proved in the court of law, the direct, indirect, contextual and investigative authority’s evidences. On behalf of government, judge T S Jithoori has conducted the case.
