Mangalore, Sep 26: The Mangalore city corporation (MCC) officers including the environmental engineers and health inspectors raided a cement gowdown at Hoige Bazar and sealed it on Thursday September 26.
Acting on complaints from the residents of the locality, the officers sealed the gowdown for operating without a valid licence. It is said that the gowdown is belonging to Madras Cements Ltd.
The environment engineer Madhu Manohar said that “the residents complained about the pollution caused during loading and unloading of cement. They submitted an appeal to the DC, MCC and to the MLA. We conducted the raid on the orders of MLA J R Lobo,” he said.
He said that without licence the gowdown has been functioning from the past three years. However, soon after the people complained, the firm applied for a licence from the MCC.
The MCC asked the firm to shift the gowdown to an industrial area, yet there was no response. Hence, J R Lobo ordered the officers to take action.
MCC officials Bharat Kumar, Babu Malnur, Basarvaraj, Yashwant and Karunakar were there in the team.
