ALLAHABAD: Samajwadi Party is committed for the development of the state. It is taking steps in this direction. The party is implementing the promises it had made in its manifesto, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said while addressing students at the Parade Ground during the laptop distribution function here on Sunday.

Striking a chord with the students, Yadav said that they should study with dedication and make their future bright. The laptops would help them in their studies. He exhorted the youth to come forward for the development of the state. “Without the development of Uttar Pradesh, the development of the country is not possible,” he said.

He announced that a new university with all modern facilities would soon be opened at Allahabad as announced during his visit to the city during Mahakumbh. The work of construction of the University would start soon.

“The city has always led the nation. It remained a centre of political thought and political struggle. The city has always been associated with the socialist thought and has also given great socialist icons like Janeshwar Mishra,” he said.

“This city is a holy place where Mahakumbh is organized and famous all over the world. Even scholars of Harward University are wonderstruck that about the successful completion of Mahakumbh, which is the biggest congregation of people in the world,” Yadav said. He lauded the administrative officers for conducting the Mahakumbh in a grand manner.

Taking a dig at the opposition, Yadav said: “There are certain forces in the state which are trying to hinder development and want to vitiate the communal atmosphere so that brakes can be applied on the path of progress. There is need to give a befitting reply to these communal forces.”

Yadav enumerated various welfare measures that have been adopted by the state government for all the sections of the society like students, farmers, workers, women and others.

He said: “Farmers are being provided water for irrigation through tubewells and canals and no charge is being taken. Wheat is being purchased from them at appropriate price. They are also being provided seeds and fertilizers.”

The CM reminded that Uttar Pradesh is the first state where unemployment allowance is being given to youth. Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme is being provided to the girls for better future.

Refuting the allegations that the State government is working for a particular community, he lambasted the Opposition charges and said that all the developmental schemes are for the masses, without any caste or community consideration.

Yadav added that there is need for industrialization of the state and steps are being taken in that direction. Industries are being set up in the state.

Speaking on the electricity crisis, the chief minister observed that there is need for more generation of power. There was deficit of about Rs 25,000 crore in the power sector during the rule of the last government. Transformers are also conking off at regular intervals. “We are trying to provide transformers of better quality so that people can get relief from frequent power-cuts,” he said.

Allahabad MP Reoti Raman Singh said: “Uttar Pradesh is developing under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav. About 15 lakh students would be given laptops in the state. Over 55,000 youth are getting unemployment allowance. Around 9,000 girls would get Kanya Vidya Dhan in the city.”

He observed that Allahabad is a land of Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb but some elements are trying to disturb communal amity.

People would give a befitting reply to all these forces. UP would continue to move ahead in the path of development, he added.

State sports and youth welfare minister Narad Rai, chairman of Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation Ramdular Rajbhar, minister of state for secondary education Vinod Kumar Singh, chairman of Uttar Pradesh Seeds Development Corporation Ujjwal Raman Singh and others were present on the occasion.
