Udupi: Illegal sandalwood transportation; 5 years sentence & fine for the accused

Udupi; Oct 11: Udupi district session court has awarded 5 years sentence and fine of Rs 50,000 to the accused in sandalwood illegal transportation case.

Accused have been identified as Surendra Kulal,aged 33,a resident of Shankarnarayana village in Kundapur taluk and Prashantha Mogaveer along with Thallur village’s Santhosh Devadiga,aged 26.

Sources said that when accused were transporting 14 Kg blocks of sandalwood  at Shankaranarayan Block No.01 earmarked forest at Agrebail cross of  Kundapur taluk’s Vandse hobali in T.V.S victor bike and Hero Honda motorbike without registration number, the police who were on night patrol caught them.

A case has been registered in this regard under forest regulatory act.

Kundapur sessions justice S.G.Revankar,who conducted the inquiry has announced that since the case has been  proved in the court,all the accused have been awarded 5 years of imprisonment and fine of Rs.50,000 on October 05th.On behalf of the government T.S.Pithoori  has fought the legal suit.
