Mangalore, Oct 30: Several students from Hassan andtheir parents staged a protest in front of a training institute of Kulshekhar alleging that the institute had cheated them by not providing them job placements at the end of their academic courses, as promised initially.
Academy of Career Guidance Incorporation (Trust) near Bikarnakatte run by its chairman Santosh Kumar S provides job-oriented training to students, especially those from financially poor families, in different fields like army, technical and government services. Most of the students hail from outside Mangalore and Udupi regions and they are given hostel facilities
According to a few students who had turned up from as far away as Hassan district, the Academy had taken amounts ranging from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 1.2 lakh promising them a job in the army as clerks, technical department and others by getting their entrance examination sheets “passed”. But till now they didn’t get job.
When they approached Santosh Kumar asking for placements he assured them of giving jobs and sent them back. He refused to pay back their money too, the students allege.
Manoj PD of Sakleshpur who was one among the protestors has alleged that even eight months after paying the fees, there was no sight of job. In another case, Chennayya, a daily wager too had admitted his son Manjunath BC to this institute by paying Rs 50,000. Even the reimbursement cheque issued by the firm has bounced, he said.
So the on Tuesday, the students along with members of the Hassan-based Samiti and the local unit of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti staged a protest outside the institute.
The Kadri police who arrived on the scene searched for the Chairman, who was not found. A case against the institute registered later.
