Mangalore, Nov.1: Various organisations tried to boycott Rajyotsava celebrations at Nehru Maidan. The incident occurred on Friday, November 1st.
Demanding CBI probe into Sowjanya rape and murder case and to put pressure on minister Ramanath Rai in this regard, the members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Janavadi Mahils Sanghtane (JMS), Mahila Dourjanya Virodi Vedike (MDVV) and Prof. Krishnappa led Dalitha Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) marched in protest to Nehru Maidan waving black flags and tried to enter the venue. But the police stopped the protestors and took them away from Nehru Maidan.
The protestors who first came near the Maidan wanted to gherao. Protestors also tried to overpower the policemen who in turn resorted to Lathicharge. As many as 150 protestors were arrested by the Police put in the van and taken to Pandeshwar Police Station. These protestors were released later.
