BANGALORE, November 11: More than 130 international and domestic companies turned up at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) here to offer summer internships to more than 400 students.
All the students managed to secure internships for the eight week full-time experience during summer, said Sankarshan Basu, Chairperson, Career Development Services, IIM-B.
The companies that participated in the exercise included Google, Barclays, Morgan and Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Amazon and McKinsey besides a host of companies across FMCG, IT, Consulting and Banking sectors.
Summer internships are considered crucial for final placements, normally held during the month of March every year, IIM-B sources said.
All top-notch companies participated in the summer internship placements at the Institute this year, defying popular perception of a global economic downturn affecting placements. The exercise began on November 6 and concluded on November 9.
Expressing satisfaction, Prof. Basu said the recruiters showed interest because of the good quality of candidates.
“Though there is a talk of slowdown, it shows that there are jobs out there for good quality candidates,” he said.
However, sources remained tight-lipped on the amount of stipend being paid to the candidates for internship this year. IIMB is expected to make an official statement on the internships on Monday.
