Mangalore, Nov. 11: “There is a need to abolish inequality and strengthen the society,” said B. Ramanath Rai, minister for forest, environment and ecology and district-in-charge minister.
Speaking after releasing a book ‘Caste, Religion and Reservation’ penned by advocate and notary B A Mohammed Haneef at a programme organised by Ahinda here on Sunday, he said that it was necessary to eradicate superstitions and false beliefs from the society, without upsetting the religious faith of the people. If the new draft law that will prevent superstitious beliefs is not passed and implemented, it will cause much harm to the backward classes who will continue to be exploited, he opined, adding that the Chief Minister would ensure the elimination of superstitions from the society.
A better society can only be built if there exists equality among all castes in the society. Caste, religion and reservations should not be limited to platforms, but should also be implemented through action he added.
B.A. Mohideen, former minister, after releasing the book said, “AHINDA is still considered as a backward class in the society. Nobody belonging to AHINDA is free to raise his/her voice against evil. This is a major setback to the society amidst much development.”
Sadashiv Salian, a Kambala sensation, V.T. Rajasekaran, editor of Dalit Voice and Harekala Hajabba, educationist, were felicitated on the occasion.
Naveen Chandra D. Suvarna, president of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Backward Classes Union, Moideen Bava, MLA and Taranath Poojary, an advocate in the High Court were present among others.
