Udupi: Srilanka’s Colombo University selects wood sculptor Balkur Gopal Acharya for honorary Doctorate degree

Udupi; Nov 13: Balkur Gopala Acharya, an established and renowned wood sculptor in the Karnataka coastal region has been chosen for honorary doctorate degree by the Colombo University in Srilanka for his excellence and achievements in wood sculpturing works.

The degree will be conferred on 24.11.2013 by the prime minister of Srilanka and members of the Senate on the occasion of convocation.

The man who started his Mathrshree woodworks company in Rahul Nagar, Manipal has got many accomplished works to his credit such as Udupi Shreekrishna Mutt’s Brahmaratha, Darbar hall of Rajangana, Sirsi sondhe Mutt’s Rajasimhasana, Manipal’s heritage house, Kanajaru temple, Guthigemane along with residential sculptors across the country.

He has won many awards to his credit such as district Kannada Rajyotsava award,Aryabhatta,Inidragandhi rashtriya Kalaratna,Shivarama Karanth award along with many other state level awards.
