Mangalore, Nov 23: Dr Radhakrishna Sampigethaya, an Associate Technical Fellow at The Boeing Company, USA, has been awarded the Engineer of the Year Award 2013 and Corporate Engineering Excellence Award by the American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin (ASEI). The award was given to him in the 28th Annual National Convention held recently in Maryland, USA.
He was given the award in recognition of his engineering excellence and assorted contributions in the field of aviation cyber security, transportation cyber physical systems and vehicular network security. The society also recognized his excellence in technical education, professional experience and leadership in various technical society including AIAA, IEEE and SAE.
Dr Radhkrishna who is currently working on aviation cyber security transportation cyber-physical systems (CPS) and the NextGen at the Boeing Research & Technology division, is the son of Dr G R Sampigethaya (an aneasiothologist at KMC Mangalore) and Geeta Sampigethaya. He had his early education at St Aloysius School and College, Mangalore. He went on to do his BS in Electrical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal.
He has over 43 research publications to his credit, including two recognized with Best Paper of Session awards at the 2010 and 2012 AIAA/IEEE DASC. He has delivered over five keynotes and a plenary talk on aviation CPS and cyber-physical security. He holds one US patent, and has filed over twelve US patent applications.
Dr Sampigethaya is a member of the AIAA, IEEE, NCOIC (Aviation IPT and Cyber Security IPT), and SAE. He is the founding chair for the SAE aviation cyber security technical committee since 2009. He was a program committee member for the first NITRD workshop on Transportation CPS workshop (2008), co-author of the first transportation CPS community report (2009), and co-organizer of the second Army Research Office CPS security workshop (2009). He co-edited the Proceedings of the IEEE special issue on CPS that appeared in Jan. 2012. He is co-author for the upcoming community report sponsored by NSF on Cloud Computing for CPS and is also co-organizing a 2013 AFRL workshop on cyber-physical systems/SCADA security (in HANSCOM AFB).
