Annual Orphanage Olympics is a prestigious social service project started by the rotary club in the year 1996 and it is now entering 15th year. Sense of belonging is very important for every person. Though orphanages take excellent care of children, the inmates are deprived of a normal upbringing in a family environment. As caring individuals, it is up to us to interact with the children regularly and make them feel special. Annual Orphanage Olympics is a step forward in this direction.
Nearly 600 children belonging to 10 orphanages in and around Mangalore were participated in this program. The Olympics involved different sports activities in the morning session and cultural competitions during afternoon session.
The program is held at an expenditure of about three lakhs. In addition to prizes to the winners, all children received gift hampers.
