New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl, who claims she is from Gorakhpur, has alleged she was gangraped by two men in the high-security New Delhi district on Tuesday evening.

Police said they were yet to confirm sexual assault as doctors have not been able to medically examine her yet. Police, quoting doctors, said there were no external injuries on her body.

Police, however, have registered a case of gangrape against unidentified men in line with new guidelines.

Police said they saw the girl roaming in Connaught Place’s

M Block around 3 am on Wednesday. When they enquired why she was in the market that late, she said she had lost her way.

“PCR personnel then enquired about her address and contact details of the people she lived with. As she couldn’t provide any information, she was taken to the police station and then to hospital for a medical examination,” a senior police officer said.

Police said the girl initially did not complain of sexual assault either to police or the doctors. However, on persistent questioning, she told the doctors that she had been sexually assaulted. The doctors in turn informed police, who contacted an NGO to counsel her.

The girl told police she left Gorakhpur after a tiff with her father and stepmother.

She reportedly boarded a train on November 28. She reached Delhi on December 8. During her journey to Delhi, she got down at several stations and was allegedly molested by a few men on board, police said, quoting her.

“She alleged after getting down at New Delhi railway station, she met a man, a driver, who asked her to accompany her. She said the man promised her a job. She alleged another man joined the driver and they sexually assaulted her behind a building on Kasturba Gandhi Marg at around 8 pm on Tuesday,” a senior police officer said.
