Mangalore, Dec. 18: “Though Rs.1 crore was released for welfare activities of physically handicapped persons the money has not been utilized so far. This matter should be taken seriously and the concerned officials should take up necessary steps to utilize the same,” said Koragappa Naik, president, Zilla Panchayat.
He was presided over the KDP monthly meet held at Zilla Panchayat auditorium on Tuesday, December 17.
“The grant in aid can be disbursed to the handicapped for the purpose of education, scholarship, buying vehicle, house repair, setting up petty shops, toilet construction, sewing training etc.”
“As handicapped lack the necessary information they are not sending applications. The Government provides Rs 50,000 to those who opt to marry a handicapped person. Not many know about this. There is a need to provide information about the various schemes to its benefeciaries. Though all Taluk Panchayats were directed to provide information of the welfare schemes in the last meeting only Mangaloer’s Taluk Panchayats is providing information rest all Taluk Panchayats are yet to do so.” Naik informed.
Asha Thimappa Gowda, education and health standing committee, Harish Shetty, vice-president, Manjunath, project director were present among others.
