Mangalore, Jan 3: The Street Vendors Association under the leadership of CITU staged a protest in front of the Central Market on Friday January 3, demanding the concerned authorities to provide a permanent place to sell their products.
Addressing the protesters, CITU President Sunil Kumar Bajal said that the Supreme Court has passed Street Vendors Bill of 2012, but still the street vendors are vacated from their place by the Central Market Vendors. Hence he urged the concerned authorities of MCC to provide a permanent place for the street vendors to run their business.
Commenting on Central Market Vendors statement of street vendors giving hafta to the police to run their business, Sunil asked them the amount of hafta Central Market Vendors pay to the police to vacate the street vendors?
Sunil criticized the ‘Civic Tiger operation’ functioned by MCC under the leadership of the then Mangalore City Mayor Praveen Anchan, which made the families of street vendors suffer a lot. But still they have come up with their business without losing hope.
Later, the protesters moved to DC office and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
