BANGALORE: Autorickshaws will be off the road from Sunday midnight to Monday midnight in Bangalore and Mysore. The drivers are opposing the recent hike in auto gas price from Rs 55 per litre to Rs 66.63.
The protesting unions claimed that the entire one lakh-strong fleet of autos will be off roads.
Rudramurthy, state general secretary of Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union, demanded that the government not only decrease the price of auto gas, but also sort out other problems of drivers. He demanded that the government establish an Auto Drivers Welfare Board and allot sites for drivers.
M Manjunath, president of Adarsh Auto Drivers Union, pointed that due to the recent hike in auto gas, auto drivers are suffering a loss of Rs 80 every day. “On Monday we will submit a memorandum to the chief minister about various problems of auto drivers,” headed.
In the backdrop of the auto strike, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will run 250 additional buses on Monday. On an average basis, BMTC plies around 6,500 buses across the city daily, said Anjum Parvez, managing director of BMTC.
