Mangalore, Jan 10: The Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya staged protest in front of DC’s office on Friday January 10, demanding the Government to stop the Nethravathi river diversion project.
Addressing the protestors, coordinator of Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya Dinesh Holla said that all the organizations must joins hands to fight against the Netravati River Diversion project. Since the government is not helping the coastal region, but creating more problem. The government is making us feel the mistake of voting it, he said.
Holla also said that, Minister Veerappa Moily had promise to cancel the proposed project has forgot it now. River which is lifeline of the coastal region has made fishermen and farmers of the region to suffer. The state government is trying to divert the river by spending Rs 60,000 crore for this project, he said.
He also said that the state government has branded the project as ‘drinking water project’ but they are fooling us and using it for industrial purpose. This protest must create awareness among the people of coastal region, he added.
