Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services has painted its ambulance vans with certain colours to help road users identify the condition of a patient on board — a move viewed as the first of its kind in the world.
Khalifa bin Darai, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, said an ambulance painted in red means the patient’s condition is critical.
“Pink colour vans are designated for pregnant women; dark green for heavyweight persons — 400kg and above; light green for people with special needs; and blue for general ambulance vans,” he said, noting that, classifying ambulances as per colour is the first of its kind in the world.
“An image identifying the kind of patient aboard is painted on the right and left side of each ambulance,” he said, adding that while an image of the heart signifies a patient set for ICPU, the image of a mother carrying a baby is stuck on pink-coloured ambulance.
“The total number of ambulances stood at 170 at present. Six bicycles are used in the global village and Jumeriah Beach Residence and a special ambulance was launched recently at the Arab Health Exhibition.
As many as 21 new ambulances of high quality have entered the service and replaced the old ones, and the life span of each ambulance is five years, he added.
