Mangalore, Mar 17: As soon Congress government came into power in the state and city, the Congress leaders have failed to keep up their promise and raised the Self Assessment property tax from 15 % to 30%.

It is learnt that the Congress, during Mangalore City corporation election in 2013, released the party manifesto brought out by Indian National Congress Party, which stated that present Self Assessment property tax will not be raised for coming 5 years.

The decision of not increasing the Self Assessment property tax was said by senior Congress leader and MP Candidate for Mangalore Loksabha Constituency Janardhana Poojary in the meeting held at MCC office on Feb 10, 2014 in the presence of District in charge minister B.Ramanath Rai , Mangalore South MLA J.R.Lobo  and Mangalore North MLA Mooideen Bawa and now they have given their consent to tax hike.
