A BMTC bus driver on duty attempted suicide by consuming poison near Hebbal on Wednesday afternoon.

The police identified the bus driver as Krishna (45). He was shifted to a private hospital, and his health condition is said to be stable, but critical.

Krishna, resident of Kamakshipalya, was deputed on the Kattiriguppe-Yelahanka route. The Sarathy squad of the BMTC stopped his bus on Hebbal flyover and questioned him as to why he was plying the bus on the flyover while it should ply under the flyover. What followed was an argument between the squad members and Krishna. The latter argued that he took the flyover because there was traffic jam on the usual route of the bus. However, Jayappa, a member of the Sarathy squad, booked Krishna for the offence, imposed fine on him and issued a memo.

Immediately after that Krishna allegedly abandoned the bus on the flyover and was later found in an unconscious state at a nearby temple. The police found a poison bottle on him, and he was rushed to a hospital. T.R. Suresh, DCP (North-East) said that they are yet to record the statement of Krishna.
