Bijapur: Former union minister of state for railways and BJP leader Basavaraj Patil Yatnal was arrested by the Bijapur police in Kolhapur, with the help of the Maharashtra police, on Wednesday.
He had allegedly instigated a mob, triggering a communal clash in the city, on Monday. Four cases had been booked against Yatnal.
He was brought to the city and produced before the court of First Additional Magistrate.
The judge ordered the police to send Yatnal to the KLE Hospital in Belgaum for treatment of high blood pressure, till June 7.
After coming out of the court, Yatnal told reporters that he and others who participated in the BJP’s victory rally on Monday had not caused any violence. He alleged that it was Bijapur city MLA Maqbool Bagwan, with the help of police officer Shankar and his supporters, who triggered the violence and the revellers had only retaliated.
