Mangalore, June 2: Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited organized Nandini Sihi Utsava on June 1, Sunday at Kulshekhar, to mark World Milk Day celebrations. Nandini Milk dealers who registered highest sales during 2013-14 were also honoured on this occassion.
UT Khader, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mayor Mahabala Maarla and MLC Monappa Bhandari were the chief guests. They later felicitated the outstanding dealers by presenting certificates and mementos.
In his address, the Health Minister said there is a need to encourage people to take up dairy farming which can be a profitable profession.
The chief guests were also felicitated on behalf of the Union. Dr. B.V. Sathyanarayana, Managing Director of the Union also spoke on the importance of the day. Later a vehicle rally was taken from the dairy to Nanthoor Junction as part of World Milk Day and Nandini Sihi Utsava. A quiz contest for consumers was also organised.
The Union will be offering Nandini sweet products at a discounted rate of 10 per cent for a week from Sunday onwards as part of the festival.
