Track-laying work at Cubbon Park Metro Station has started and is expected to be completed by September, said Pradeep Singh Kharola, Managing Director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL).
Work on providing power along the route, which has 400 metres of tunnel, is expected to be completed in October. This would enable trial runs from Magadi Road to Nayandahalli by December, Mr. Kharola told reporters at Cubbon Park station.
One of the challenges is transporting four coaches from Byappanahalli to the Mysore Road end over the tracks through Cubbon Park station. They will be transported via Majestic. At present, tunnelling work at Chickpet, which is a densely populated area, is going on slowly.
About six acres of land has been acquired for the second phase and tenders have been called for construction work. He said, “Work will begin in 2015.”
At present, the number of people taking the Metro from Malleswaram to Peenya is approximately 20,000 a day, he said.
