Belthangady, July 17: Moral policing was reported from Ujire when a young couple was confronted by a group of people who wanted to know their whereabouts, while the couple were waiting for a bus, on July 16, Wednesday.
The mob wanted to know why they had come together and what was going on. It later came to light that the two were lovers, belonged to the same community and that their families had fixed their marriage.
The youth around 21 years of age was from Moodigere and owned a mobile shop there, the 19 year old girl from Karkala was his relative and a BBM student who had come to a college in Ujire for her sister’s admission.
The Belthangady Police who rushed to the spot ensured that the young pair was not attacked. Cases have been registered against the accused.
It is said that three persons have been arrested but it is not yet confirmed.
