A 23-year-old rowdy-sheeter, lodged in the Central prison at Parappana Agrahara on the charge of double murder, is now under the scanner after one of his ‘trainees’ was caught in connection with a series of burglaries.

The rowdy-sheeter, Yuvraj, and his associates not only tutored Mateen Agha (20) in burglary, but also arranged bail for the undertrial. After examining the call records of Agha, police found out that he was in constant touch with Yuvraj. This despite the latest mobile jammers being put in place in the 40-acre jail premises at a cost of around Rs. 6 crore.

Agha is suspected of committing burglary in Subramanyapura, Srirampura, Nandini Layout and Mahalakshmi Layout.

He was arrested by the Mahalakshmi police. During investigations, he claimed that Yuvraj tutored him and got him bail. “Yuvraj was in constant touch with Mateen, giving directions to commit burglaries and on disposing the booty,” a police officer said.

The racket came to light when Mahalakshmi Layout police approached the court seeking custody of Yuvraj to further investigate the matter.

To their surprise, Yuvraj, who had by then learnt that he was in trouble, called several media houses fearing being killed by the police in an encounter.

“This is a ploy by Yuvraj to not only hamper our investigation but to tarnish the image of the city police,” said a senior police officer, who is part of the investigation.

The officer added that the police is in possession of call records, which would be made public soon.
