MANGALORE: Deputy commissioner and district magistrate Harsh Gupta promulgated prohibitory order under Section 144 of CRPC in Dakshina Kannada district for 48 hours in view of assembly elections.
The DC stated that Section 144 will be in force in the district from 5pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday. Accordingly, five or more people will not be allowed to gather or move around together in the district. People are not supposed to gather in large numbers at any public places. Citizens are not allowed to carry any type of weapons including sickle, sword, wooden stick, lathi or any other objects that can be used to carry out physical assault during the prohibitory period, he said.
No public programmes, processions, meetings and other ceremonies will be allowed without special permission from the Election Commission. Making loud noise, singing loudly, displaying pictures, sticking posters and using signal languages are banned under the Section, the DC said.
Political party workers and supporters of independent candidates will not be allowed to campaign in group of more than four people. They may engage in door-to-door campaign, but the number of campaigners should be less than five. Restrictions under Section will not be applicable for any government programmes. Similarly, restrictions on use of weapons are not applicable to police and para military forces, he added.
