The prices of tomatoes have doubled across the country during the last fortnight, while retail prices have crossed Rs 80/kg at many places in south India.
High temperatures and drought situations during April and May are said to be the reason which have affected the tomato production adversely.
Giving details, a wholesaler said that the shortage of water is the reason behind the tomato reaching at a price of 50rs/kg, adding that the prices are expected to increase more in coming days.
