Beltangady, December 30: Few hours elapsed post the allegations of assault made by a family from Bantwal; locals from all communities along with some organizations came together in support of SI Sandesh. They said that he should not be suspended or transferred from Beltangady.
The protestors argued that SI Sandesh could not have assaulted or abused a nun as alleged by the family since the SI also belongs to the same community.
They said, SI Sandesh is an honest officer who would not abuse or assault without reason, especially women and children. From the time he has come to Beltangady, he has done excellent work. Hence he should not be suspended or transferred. The police were only doing their duty, it is not their mistake, they said.
Members of Muslim and Christian organizations, SDPI, Bajrang Dal, and VHP, came together and expressed their support to SI Sandesh.
The family of Kiran Walter, a resident of Savanalu who works in Israel, on Tuesday alleged that SI Sandesh along with other policemen had interrupted the wedding function of Kiran’s brother Alwyn on December 28th and tried to arrest Kiran in connection to a case. When the family objected the arrest, they, along with a nun and a child were allegedly assaulted by SI Sandesh.
In a counter case, SI Sandesh alleged that Kiran and some members of his family assaulted him and other police personnel’s when they went to arrest Kiran.
According to a complaint filed by Anil Furtado, Kiran had taken Rs 5.10 lakhs from him promising to provide visa to Israel to Anil’s wife Leena, but after taking the amount in instalments, Kiran allegedly neither provided the visa nor returned the money.
The IGP has asked to submit a report on the incident by the afternoon of Wednesday December 30th, further action is expected to be taken based on the reports.
