Mangaluru,Dec.15th : The staff and students of the Department of Physics of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru organized a National Seminar “SAGA OF LIGHT” on the occasion of the International Year of Light and on the Importance of Light based Technologies sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India under the Star College Scheme on December 15, 2015 at Eric Mathais Hall of the College

The Chief Guest, Prof. P. C Deshmukh, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, in his address said that we should all be inspired by ‘Asuthoma’ meaning ‘from darkness to light’ to do the right thing when we are confronted with alternative choices. He said “I hope we are guided by truth and light”. Encouraging the students, he said “If you take the right steps in the right direction, St Aloysius College will become the top Institution in India, possibly in the next 20 years.

Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ, Principal of St Aloysius College, in his presidential address expressed that the college’s motive is to light a lamp in the minds of the students to guide them and enlighten them as well as trying to dispel the darkness from the youngsters. He said, “Imagine life without light, when you blink your life will only be half complete.” He also said that light has the power to drive away darkness and that the theme chosen was appropriate for us to meditate on.

The National level seminar was inaugurated by Prof. P. C Deshmukh along with the Guest of Honor Dr. V. Radhakrishnan, ISRO Satellite Center, ISITE, Bengaluru; Principal of St Aloysius College, Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Silva SJ; Dr. Narayan Bhat, Convener of the program; Mr. Chandrashekara Shetty, Co-Convener; Mr. John Sherra, Vice Principal of the Science block and Dr. Ronald Nazareth, of the Star College Scheme with the lighting of the lamp.

Mr. Lawrence Pinto, HOD of Physics welcomed the gathering and Mr. Chandrashekara Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
