The post-mortem examination of SFI leader Sudipto Gupta has revealed that he died of multiple injuries, sources said on Wednesday.
Even as thousands of students and Communist activists thronged city roads to protest the student leader’s death caused by alleged police atrocity, the autopsy report belied the claims of West Bengal Police and the ruling Trinamool Congress that it was an accidental death.
According to sources, 22-year-old Gupta had suffered injuries to his head, near his eye and chin. The head injury was ante-mortem in nature, sources said. There were injury marks on his back also.
The police have said that Gupta had fallen off bus after being arrested causing him grievous injuries. However, eyewitnesses claimed that he was tortured by the police in custody.
