Making Mumbai the third region to benefit from its 3G services this year, Aircel rolled out its high-speed network connectivity in the maximum city earlier today. The telecom operator doesn’t own the required spectrum in this region, which is why it has partnered with Reliance Communications in order to achieve the deed.

A range of tariff plans and Internet packs have been made available by Aircel in Mumbai, letting interested parties access 3G speeds using their smartphones, tablets or dongles. Earlier this year, the company had done the same in Delhi and Rajasthan.

Harish Sharma, who happens to be the regional business head (West) at Aircel, has said that the ‘phenomenal upsurge’ in the adoption of smart devices and data penetration have together led to customers demanding ‘superior technology and affordable plans.’ According to him, the company has hence decided to launch its 3G data services in Mumbai along with tailor-made affordable plans.

The tariff plans from the operator start at Rs 107 and go up to Rs 349, and all of them offer 300MB of additional data for WhatsApp and Facebook. This is an aggressive move in our opinion, which should eventually provide the company with a lot of goodwill, given the high amount of usage these two apps experience. These tariff packs last for 30 days, and offer calls at 1p/sec. The amount of 3G data they offer starts from 300MB for Rs 107 and goes up to 2GB at Rs 349.

Aircel subscribers in Mumbai can even go for monthly internet packs which cost anything between Rs 13 and Rs 195. These new plans are of course only applicable on prepaid SIM cards.
