Miss India Worldwide 2013, 2nd runner-up, Surbhi Sachdev plans to step into Bollywood after finishing her education
Much like her idols Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sushmita Sen, both accomplished beauty queens and actresses in their own right, Dubai’s teen beauty queen Surbhi Sachdev also hopes of spearheading a change, while clinching her own Bollywood dream.
“Both are role models and I truly respect them for carrying themselves with grace, elegance and poise,” she explains about the influence Ash and Sush have had on her.
It’s not just the beauty and glamour, but the desire to make a difference, that prompted Surbhi to trek through the glamorous terrains.
Surbhi Sachdev, 2nd runner-up Dubai girl represented Oman in Miss India Worldwide 2013 held in Kuala Lumpur.
At the recently held annual Miss India Worldwide 2013 pageant in Kuala Lumpur, the 19-year-old highlighted her wish for a world of equal opportunities before winning the second runners-up title as she represented Oman.
“I would work towards helping underprivileged children, because I believe in equal opportunities,” she said, when asked what cause she would take on if she won the crown.
The journey to the top wasn’t easy, and came with its set of intense training, but Surbhi was determined to make it and turn her “passion into reality”.
She worked endlessly on perfecting her speech, fitness and walk, and was groomed by the best Dubai has to offer. “I trained under choreographer Lakshmi Nair, an instructor at Shiamak UAE, for the talent round. As for my fitness, I did regular sessions of cardio and pilates. My catwalk was perfected by national director Eisha Ramrakhiani.”
It was after being shortlisted as the top five finalists at the Miss India UAE pageant that she was selected for the Miss India worldwide pageant, which aims to celebrate women of Indian origin.
The pageant was “absolutely incredible” and a “remarkable experience” where Surbhi competed with “contestants from 39 countries”.
“It was definitely a wonderful opportunity as I got to learn about their cultures and countries. It was a great learning experience as it allowed me to discover myself as an individual, explore my strength and weakness and build my confidence.”
After winning her space in the spotlight, Surbhi credits her family and friends for their endless support.
“My driving force has undoubtedly been my family. My parents, Sunita and Sukhdeep Sachdev have taught me to never give up on my dreams. I feel proud to have won the crown not just for myself but for them as well.”
Now, that the pageant is done and dusted, Surbhi is now focusing on completing her education. “(Right now) I am pursuing a degree in BSc Psychology Honours and I believe that completing your education and having a degree is extremely important.
However, if Bollywood offers come knocking on her door, she’s willing to make an exception.
“But, if I get opportunities in Bollywood then I will feel extremely blessed, and will definitely take up the opportunity, alongside my education.”
And, while on Bollywood, she waxes eloquence about her screen idol Shah Rukh Khan, who she dreams of romancing one day.
“My absolute favourite actor is none other than the Baadshah of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan! He’s such an inspiration. He created a name for himself in the industry on his own. Someday, I wish to work with him and I hope I can turn this dream into a reality.”
Geetanjali Kelath, who represented the UAE in the same pageant in Malaysia, made it to the top ten.
