The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec), recently carried out an inspection of outlets selling contraband cosmetics at the Arab Markets Exhibition at Adnec.
The campaigns resulted in the seizure of 727 packages of unknown origin products and a number of prohibited substances weighing about 101kg in total.
“The inspection teams, in coordination with the Organizing Committee and the management of Adnec, carried out intensive campaigns targeting outlets with the aim of verifying compliance with public health and cleanliness stipulations designated for exhibitions, and whether exhibits conform to the specifications and standards set for consumer goods, in keeping with the Municipality’s commitment to safeguard the health of the community,” said Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.
“The Municipality will act seriously to any breach of the health code and enforce the relevant laws in a bid to foster a safe and healthy shopping environment for all exhibition goers” Al Rumaithi added.
The Municipality has called upon traders and exhibitors in these regular exhibitions to cooperate with the concerned bodies, adhere to the health conditions and standards set for exhibits, and avoid breaching the rules regulating these activities.
It also cautioned visitors against trading or using items in breach of the applicable health stipulations for those of unknown origin as they are deemed unsafe and have the potential of triggering skin diseases and other ailments in the long run.(GT)
