Jayalalithaa announces Rs 3 lakh for supporters who committed suicide after her conviction

JAYALALITHAA_1943054fChennai: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs.3 lakh to the family members of 26 people who committed suicide after she was convicted in a disproportionate assets case recently.

Her party AIADMK has claimed that 219 people have either committed suicide or died of shock due to Jayalalithaa’s conviction in the DA case.

A special court in Bangalore September 27 convicted Jayalalithaa in the Rs.66.65-crore disproportionate assets case and sentenced her to four years of simple imprisonment, with a fine of Rs.100 crore.

She was released on bail last week.
